The vulva vs vagina

 A beginner should know: 

•  Vagina = internal canal 
• Vulva = outer area 

Important rule The vagina cleans itself naturally. 

 Do NOT: 

•  Use harsh soaps internally 
• Use scented washes inside 
• Douche 

These can disturb healthy bacteria and cause irritation or infection. 

 Proper care 

• Wash only the external vulva gently with water or mild unscented cleanser 
• Wipe front to back after toilet use 
• Keep area dry and breathable
•  Prefer cotton underwear 

See a doctor if there is: 

• Strong odor 
• Itching 
• Burning 
• Unusual discharge 
• Pain
